Every day your BBB of Southwest Missouri receives calls from area consumers excited that they have potentially won a large amount of money. Unfortunately, what they find themselves in the middle of is a scam. We are calling on the consumers of southwest Missouri to help us raise awareness of this scam by sending us these fake checks to get them off the streets.

Better Business Bureau has received more than 1,500 complaints about several dozen Web sites that are trading on the Google name to scam people who want to learn about making money from home.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) and its national partners, the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and the National Association for Information Destruction invite the Southwest Missouri Community to BBB “Secure Your ID” Day Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the BBB parking lot at 430 S. Glenstone Ave in Springfield. Residents and small businesses are encouraged to attend the event and take a key step in identity protection by shredding and properly disposing of their sensitive paper documents as well as CDs and floppy discs. BBB staff will also be on-site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.
